You keep your phone’s software updated. You keep your hairstyle and clothing updated. You keep your social media status updated. You like keeping things up to date, but does that also apply to your family photos?
Moms, it’s important for your children to have photos that you are present in, and that you can pass down to future generations. When I say photos, I’m not talking about the selfies in your phone. Although those are all still moments in time, I’m talking specifically about a planned out professional photo shoot in which you are able to be a part of. Take your photographer hat off and allow a professional photographer to capture you with your entire family. You are a part of the family’s history…its legacy. Your kids deserve to see you in their photos and to have these memories to cherish.
Time flies and your new bundle of joy turns into a teenager in the blink of an eye. Now of course it may not be ideal to take family portraits every time your kids grow a few inches, but it is worth updating and keeping your images current to represent your family as they are presently. Some families opt to do yearly portraits around their favorite season, and others choose to celebrate various milestones, such as new additions, birthdays, graduations, anniversaries, etc. Mini sessions, such as, Christmas, Spring, Mother’s Day, are also a popular way for families to update their photos more regularly.
In addition to keeping your family photos current, when there is a new addition to your family, they should see themselves hanging on the walls as well. It is far too often that I hear clients say that they have a new baby, but don’t have any professional photos of the new members with the family. This is a HUGE reason to book a family session. Each family member should feel included and be included in the photos.
Are all of your recent photos stored on your phone or in social media posts? Technology is ever-changing and can’t always be relied on. Where did floppy disks go? CDs? That old phone that you never properly backed up? That computer that crashed? Book a professional photographer to capture your family and get your valuable memories on your walls or in a tangible photo album. Physical prints last forever, see yourself in print!
As time passes, certain trends and styles become outdated. You don’t want to cringe at your hairstyle, wardrobe, makeup, etc. every time you glance at the photo on your wall. This is a perfect time to update your photos to match your current style. Contrarily, your style of your home decor may have changed. Maybe you are remodeling or moved into a new home. You may want to have new photos taken to update the look of your family pictures in your new or refreshed space.
